Fresh on the 2048 scene and I’m all about it. For the longest time I’ve been looking for an app to get hooked on. To occupy those breaks when I’m on the subway, without a signal and can’t get on Twitter, Instagram, or the rest of the wonderful free world. And with 2048, I think I’ve found a stopgap that I can handle.

You see, I’m a particular type of gamer. Admittedly, I’m not the biggest Candy Crush or Farm Heroes fan. The flashing fluorescent lights. The artificial sugary feeling. I just can’t. I can’t be playing something that resembles  anime or makes me feel like I’m on caffeine high. 2048 does neither of these things. And the more I play 2048, the more I’m into it.

Puzzle games should be fun, but they also should be a little bit educational. I’m in my early 20’s, a college graduate, and even though I love games that make me remember my youth, I also must surrender to the fact that I need to grow up. As a right-brained individual, it has been years since I’ve had to take even the simplest of math courses. So, even though 2048 requires only basic math knowledge, it definitely was a charge to a part of my mind that I hadn’t used for some time. The game was a little challenging at times. I’ll admit it. But after a little time I was reveling in a type of puzzle that was fresh.

Simple in principle, but addicting difficult in practice, 2048 has everything I wanted. Something simple, not flashy, yet challenging. The objective of 2048 is to achieve 2048 in ONE box. At first I thought all you needed was to align 2-0-4-8 in a row, but I soon found out that that was wrong. Don’t be the idiot that jumped into the game without reading the simple directions. Basically, don’t be me.

I said before that I was addicted to 2048. I never said I was good at it. As of this point, I’ve been playing the game for a few hours and have yet to beat it. That is to say I’ve never got 2048. But I have gotten close. With that being said, I’ve asked around to people more knowledgeable than myself, who have achieved the difficult feat, for help figuring out the 2048 puzzle.

To help you get a good start, here are a few tips:

–       Focus on one corner of the puzzle.

–       Try to build up this one corner

–       It’s not a bad idea to have a big numbered box, but make sure it’s in the corner, otherwise it’ll block your other matches

Good Luck! Kill it!
